Lemon & herb chicken is mild, zesty and garlicky; peri-peri chicken is basted in a chilli sauce made with African bird’s eye chilli for a smoky, spicy kick. Both are flame-grilled the Portuguese way – the difference is the baste.
Lemon & herb
Lemon, garlic, herbs and butter or oil. A good choice for kids, for anyone who does not like heat, or when you want to taste the grilled chicken itself.
Peri-peri
Peri-peri (also spelled piri-piri) is the Portuguese name for the African bird’s eye chilli. The sauce combines chilli with garlic, lemon or vinegar and oil. It is the signature flavour of Portuguese chicken in Southern Africa.
